President of the Vietnam Pepper Association, Do Ha Nam, listed El Nino, improper farming techniques, and overuse of fertilizers as factors set to take a toll on the output of the world's leading pepper supplier. Executive director of the International Pepper Community, Anandan Abdullah, warned about a decline in output if the crop was grown on unsuitable land. Scientists, growers, and processors should join hands to address this problem. Last year Vietnam exported more than 118,000 tons to 80 countries and territories for US$195 million, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the world's pepper shipments. Source: VNA |
