Nhật 0914401609 Ha Noi Soco fails to strike oil, to abandon Vietnam well

British oil company Soco International PLC said it is preparing to plug and abandon an exploration well in Vietnam after failing to find hydrocarbons.

It said the Ca Ong Doi 2X (COD-2X) well on Block 9-2 encountered lower Miocene – a geological era 24-5 million years ago – sands but were not charged with hydrocarbons. It was now preparing to move back to Block 16-1, saying it would focus its near term exploration program on the 'proven play fairway' on Block 16-1 where it expected to drill up to eight exploration wells this year.
